A great day of sunshine and I headed out for a ride today. Thanks to the recent warmer weather and some rain, the trails are improving. While you may find some ice at the yellow gate in Cumberland, the rest of the trails are in quite managable shape.
Similar to the last report, any trails below Perseverence Creek are relatively snow free, save for a few patches of compact snow in open areas. Roads are still 30% covered in compact snow but it is somewhat rideable still. Open areas where the snow is in the sun it becomes slushy and harder to ride during the day but since there isn't too much of it, it's easy to deal with.
Lower Cumberland Trails
- So far the rain has done a decent job of clearing snow away save for some of the open roadways
- Most trails are clear of snow. Some snow at the entrances of each trail is common until you get into the forest coverage.
- Numerous trees and many branches down in the forest near the south / eastern portions where close to clearcuts (soggy biscuit, entrails, etc..)
- Nothing above the bridge is all that accessible although except for possibly Hai Gui although I'm not sure of the status for blowdowns...
- If you haven't been up to Upper Crafty Butcher in a while - the clearcut makes it hard to figure out where the trail goes, but head around below the piles of slash and continue up along the ridge looking for royal blue flagging tape, which will lead you to the remaining sections of the trail.
Cumberland Dump Trails
- Overall most of these trails have cleared out. Some shaded portions might have compact snow and ice on the roadways, and a few trails through the clearings may be covered in 2-4 inches of snow if mostly shaded.
